What spring training actually is now
Spring training used to be a month of low-stakes warm-up games. It is now a media event with its own economics, for three reasons.
Shared complexes. Half the Cactus League works out of facilities two clubs share. Camelback Ranch in Glendale hosts both the Dodgers and the White Sox, which is why the two meet there on day one — a fixture that could not exist at a normal ballpark. These complexes are purpose-built for fan access: practice fields, bullpen viewing areas and tickets that cost a fraction of a regular-season game.

Small stadiums. Grapefruit League parks in Florida seat a few thousand. That proximity is the entire appeal — you are closer to the field in Dunedin or Port St. Lucie than you will ever be at a regular-season ballpark.
The WBC and roster decisions. Spring is when jobs are won. Non-roster invitees, prospects on the 40-man bubble and rehabbing pitchers all get their audition here, and the players who emerge from February often define a season.
The defending champions
The Dodgers arrive in Glendale as back-to-back World Series winners, having taken the 2024 and 2025 Fall Classics. The most recent of those was the 2025 World Series: they beat the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 in Toronto, winning 5–4 in 11 innings — Miguel Rojas tied it at 4–4 with a one-out home run in the bottom of the ninth, and Will Smith's home run in the 11th decided it. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who also won Games 2 and 6, was named series MVP. It was the first set of consecutive titles since the Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000, and the club has been open about going for a third.
One era closed at the same time. Clayton Kershaw retired after 18 seasons, three Cy Young Awards and more than 3,000 strikeouts, and has moved into a special assistant role with the club. His last game was that Game 7.

The one risk to the calendar
It would be dishonest to write about the 2027 schedule without mentioning the contract situation. The current collective bargaining agreement expires on 1 December 2026, and owners have pushed for a salary cap while the players' side has resisted. If no agreement is reached, a lockout becomes possible — the last one ran from December 2021 to March 2022.
For now the schedule stands as published: spring training on 19 February, Opening Night on 24 March, Opening Day on 25 March. But if you are booking travel around a specific spring game, that is the risk to keep in mind.
What to wear while you wait
Spring is when the previous season's shirts become the current season's shirts, and the two markets worth watching are Los Angeles and Toronto.
| Shirt | Why it is here | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers home | The most-requested baseball shirt in the store | $59.77 |
| Mookie Betts, Dodgers home | Longest-tenured of the current core | $59.77 |
| Yoshinobu Yamamoto, kanji edition | The 2025 World Series MVP, women's build | $59.77 |
| Tarik Skubal, Dodgers home | The rotation addition | $59.77 |
| Kyle Tucker, Dodgers home | The outfield addition | $59.77 |
| Kyle Tucker, youth | Youth pricing on a current player | $47.99 |
Toronto's Blue Jays range runs to 32 items and is the natural second stop after a seven-game World Series. The Dodgers collection is 62 items, and the wider MLB collection covers every club — the Yankees and Phillies ranges are the two largest outside Los Angeles.

Prices, builds and sizing
| Build | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult replica, men's or women's | $59.77 |
| Big & Tall replica | $59.77 |
| Youth replica | $47.99 |
| Newborn romper | $42.90 |
Baseball jerseys are button-front and cut full through the body, with the hem at the hip — 28 inches / 71 cm at a men's S, rising to 33 inches / 84 cm at 3XL. Order your true chest size; many buyers find they can go one size down from their soccer size because the placket makes the shirt hang wider.
The full chart across all six leagues is on the size guide, new baseball stock lands on the MLB new-season page, and you can send your measurements to fanservice2026@outlook.com for a free size check before dispatch. Free shipping over $68, 30-day returns.
Frequently asked questions
When does spring training start in 2027?
Friday 19 February 2027, when all 30 clubs open on the same day — 15 in Arizona's Cactus League and 15 in Florida's Grapefruit League.
When is MLB Opening Day 2027?
Traditional Opening Day is Thursday 25 March 2027, with 14 games. A standalone Opening Night game is played on Wednesday 24 March and streamed on Netflix.
Why is Opening Day 2027 so early?
25 March 2027 is the earliest traditional Opening Day in Major League history. The season still ends on 26 September, so the earlier start spreads the calendar rather than extending it.
Could there be a lockout in 2027?
It is a real possibility. The current collective bargaining agreement expires on 1 December 2026, and owners have pushed for a salary cap. No agreement by that date could lead to a work stoppage, as happened from December 2021 to March 2022.
Who won the most recent World Series?
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5–4 in 11 innings in Game 7 in Toronto in October 2025 — their second straight title after 2024. The 2026 World Series is scheduled to begin on 23 October 2026, with a possible Game 7 on 31 October.
